“Escape to Ancient History in Cusco, Peru: Uncover the Wonders of this Historic City.”

If you are looking for a unique vacation destination that is replete with ancient history, look no further than Cusco, Peru. This city is a trove of impressive Inca and colonial historical sites, and offers the perfect opportunity to explore the wonders of eras past and the glories of a modern, vibrant culture.

Cusco is most famously known as the gateway to Machu Picchu, the famous lost city of the Incas, and there are several ways to visit this monumental World Heritage Site. But Cusco itself is full of amazing sights and activities, and you can easily base yourself there to explore its own unique offerings, as well as the many outdoor activities in the nearby Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Cusco’s Inca-era sights are not just for the archaeologically-minded. Evidence of the Inca’s presence in Cusco is everywhere, from the streets named after fallen Inca rulers to the Inti Raymi festival that re-enacts the Inca’s Sun Festival.

When you visit Cusco, you’ll want to start your exploration of the city with its top Cathedral, the Plaza de Armas (Main Square), and the stunning San Blas neighborhood. Then as you explore the city you’ll see a mix of colonial and traditional Inca architecture; both beautiful and unique in their own way.

For explorers, there is plenty to discover in the nearby Sacred Valley of the Incas. This incredible area envelops the Vilcanota River and is the source of much of the spiritualism of Cusco, seeing as it once housed the religious centers of Pisaq, Ollantaytambo, and Chinchero.

When you come to Cusco, Peru, you’ll soon learn that the city is more than just a gateway to Machu Picchu. There are stunning colonial churches, incredible churches like La Compania de Jesus and San Blas, bustling markets and bazaars, and a vibrant, dusty center where you’ll find natives dressed in traditional outfits selling everything from handmade crafts to delicious food.

The best way to get a feel for this beautiful city is to head out for a hike in the Andes, have a plate of cuy (guinea pig), sip cerveza chica (a local beer), and get to know the local culture by simply walking around its handsome cobblestone streets. Cusco is a place unlike any other, not only in Peru but in the world, making it the perfect destination to get in touch with the ancient history of the Incas and explore the beauty of the region.
