Not only does it keep costs down, but it also allows you to experience the culture of the city like a local. Plus, all of the walking will help you to build up an appetite, so don’t forget to take some time out to enjoy some of the delicious local cuisine as well.
However, make sure to book your accommodation early as some cities can be particularly crowded during peak season. Be sure to also familiarise yourself with the main tourist attractions and other ‘must-see’ attractions so you don’t miss out on some important experiences when travelling in the city.
But remember, the best way to experience a city break is to try something new and go off the beaten track. So, swap the museums and crowds for some interesting local hangouts, hidden away gems and little-known art exhibitions. And, don’t be afraid to wander around aimlessly and just get a feel for the city.
