“Fun and Affordable Ways to Celebrate the Holidays Without Breaking the Bank.”.

It’s the time of year when bank accounts get a little (or a lot) worse for wear. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are plenty of ways to make the holidays special without breaking the bank. Here are some of our favorite budget-friendly holiday ideas to get your festive season off to a great start.

1. Have a potluck holiday dinner. Cooking for the whole family? Why not ask everyone to bring a dish or two, which can be divided up among the guests and everyone can enjoy some wonderful meals throughout the holiday season. Besides saving money, it makes for more pleasant conversations since everyone has a contribution.

2. Make your own decorations. Instead of buying flashy store decorations, why not make your own? This can be a great way to get the entire family involved, make some fun crafts, and create personal touches throughout the house.

3. Go caroling. Bundle up, gather the family and friends, and venture out into the neighbourhood to spread some cheer while singing classic carols. You may even get the chance to go inside different houses in the neighbourhood.

4. Sign up to volunteer. Rather than spending money on gifts this year, why not sign up to volunteer together as a family? You can do anything from visiting a local soup kitchen to gift-wrapping or helping to organize events. Volunteering can be an incredibly rewarding way to spend quality time together while giving back to the community.

5. Start a holiday movie night. Invite all your friends over and have a movie marathon. Pop some popcorn and make some hot cocoa to add that cozy wintery feel.

6. Make art. Sitting down for a few hours can be a great bonding opportunity for the entire family. Set up art stations with different supplies, such as paper, stickers, markers and glue, and create one-of-a-kind art pieces.

7. Go bargain-shopping. One of the best budget-friendly holiday ideas is to go bargain-shopping. Scour the internet for discounted items, such as gifts, decorations, or even food.

8. Make a foraging trip. This is a great opportunity for the kids to get to explore nature a bit, and anything they find can be used to decorate a special Christmas tree or add to other decorations.

9. Take a winter walk. Bundle up the family and take a wintery walk down your neighbourhood. You can even try to take in the sights of all the festive decorations around town and take photos of your own decorations you’ve set up.

10. Host a game night. A game-night can be a great way to keep the family entertained during the holidays. Don’t forget to feed the crowd with snacks and drinks!

The holidays can be an expensive time of year, but it doesn’t have to be if you get creative and think of fun, affordable family activities. Check out some of these budget-friendly my holiday ideas and get your festive season off to a great start.
