Tokyo is arguably one of the world’s most iconic cities. Found in the Honshu island of Japan, Tokyo is a sprawling metropolis made up of at least 23 individual wards, which each hold an atmosphere and distinct charm of their own. With bustling streets full of culture and history, as well as a world-renowned modern cosmopolitan flair – Tokyo is a haven of attraction like no other.

For those bitten by the travel bug and seeking to explore the depths of Tokyo, there is no shortage of sites to explore. Start the day in the bustling Tsukiji Market where you can sample traditional Japanese delicacies, such as sashimi and tamagoyaki, before taking a short stroll to Hama-Rikyu, a lovely garden built around a natural marsh. The Imperial Palace East Garden is a great spot to spend an afternoon while taking in the impressive buildings and rich layers of history before heading towards the sprawling Tokyo Skytree, a mammoth transmission tower which is the second tallest building in the world.

The foodies amongst us will be thrilled to hear of the culinary delight that Tokyo has become a mecca for. With dozens of Michelin-starred restaurants, ramen-soup shops, izakaya bars and more, exploring the Tokyo’s gastronomy is a pilgrimage in itself. For those who seek a memorable night-out, Tokyo has hundreds of unique, stylish bars where mixologists are eager to share the history of their craft in creative ways – with neon-lit cabaret-style bars and speakeasy-style places, an energetic vibe awaits!

Then there is the shopping. The sprawling megalopolis is packed with both traditional and luxury shopping options, with the most popular locations being Shinjuku, Shibuya and Ginza. New luxe concepts, such as Omotesando Hills, pop-up markets and capsules, are cropping up, while Harajuku and Ueno are thriving in their own way. Additionally, there are more than 60 of the world’s best fashion boutiques lining up on the 5.5km stretch of the Champs-Elysées-like street of Omotesando and the nearby Aoyama-itchōme district.

When the night is through and your spirit and essentials renewed, it’s time to explore Tokyo’s famed entertainment scene. From karaoke joints, intimate jazz clubs and lively bars of Roppongi to the flashy nightlife of Shibuya, some of the biggest and best parties can be found in Tokyo’s many nightclubs and live venues. Then there’s the National Stadium, which will host the 2020 Olympics games and you can catch a show at the renowned Nippon Budokan, where The Beatles played during their Tokyo concerts in 1966.
