Things to Do in Florence, Italy

There’s a good reason why Florence is one of the most popular cities in Italy: it’s got everything you could ever want from a getaway. From stunning architecture to vibrant street life and of course, gelato (or ice cream). This city has it all, which is why you shouldn’t look for ways to have the best time of your life when you’re here, because there will always be more where that came from. While we can’t promise that spending some time in this amazing medieval city will make your life better by any stretch of the imagination, what we can tell you is that staying in Florence offers so many opportunities to have fun on your stay that it would be a shame not to take advantage of them. Here are some great ideas on how to have the best time of your life while you’re here.

Pack your walking shoes

Florence is a city that loves to walk. Whether you’re taking in the sights of the historical centre, wandering through the parks and gardens in the outskirts or climbing the hills, there is no better way to explore this city than on foot. Not only is it great for your health but it also gives you the opportunity to experience the city in a way that makes you think about it in a different way. You may even stumble upon a piece of architecture you never noticed before when you walk around. Some of the most beautiful views in the city can be seen from the top of one of the nearby hills. The city can be explored by foot in a few hours by climbing one of the nearby hills. The most popular hill to climb is the San Giovanni Hill, which is only a few kilometres away from the city centre. It’s an easy walk, so you can do it with the whole family. In the evening, when the city lights up, it’s a truly magical sight.

Eat all the carbonara you can get your hands on

Everyone knows that Italy is famous for its pasta, but hidden among all the different types of pasta there are also different types of carbonara. Carbonara is a well-known dish made from raw eggs and guanciale, which is a type of pork shoulder. It’s commonly eaten in Florence during the winter season and is best enjoyed in the company of friends or family. When you’re here, make it your mission to eat as many different types of carbonara as you can. The flavours are so unique, you’ll be surprised by how many you taste during your stay. One of the most famous types of carbonara is the prosciutto e arugula (which is a mix of prosciutto, fresh arugula and eggs), which is traditionally served at special events such as weddings and baptisms. If this type of carbonara is not available where you are, don’t worry, there’s always the soppressata version which is also delicious.

Take a ride up the tower for an incredible view

There is no better way to experience the unique Florence architecture than by riding up the tower. There are a few different types of towers in Florence, the most popular of which is the Florence tower. This tower offers an incredible view of the city and can be climbed both by foot and by gondola. Both the walk and the ride are incredibly romantic and make for a great day out for a couple or a group of friends. The Florence tower can be climbed by foot for free or by gondola for a small fee. If you’re climbing the tower by foot, be careful as the staircase is quite narrow and steep. When climbing the tower by gondola, you’ll get to see the best Florence architecture in the city from above.

Get lost in the labyrinth

There are many different types of labyrinths in the world, but the best one to visit in Florence is the city’s oldest labyrinth. The oldest labyrinth in Florence is located in the Basilica of San Lorenzo, which is one of the most impressive buildings in the city. After visiting the church, you can take a walk through the labyrinth, which is open daily from 10:00 to 16:00. The labyrinth is not only a great way to explore the city but it’s also an amazing experience. In the labyrinth you’ll find yourself walking in a circular path, walking on a circular path while trying to stay in the middle while avoiding the holes in the ground. The labyrinth is a great way to get in touch with your inner child as well as clear your mind.

Find your favourite piazza and hang out there all day long

There are many different piazzas in Florence that are worthy of a visit, but the most popular is the Piazza della Signoria. This piazza has been home to the Palazzo Vecchio (which is a building that is also worth visiting) since the 15th century. If you want to spend the afternoon here, be careful as it can get really crowded, especially in the summer. The best way to explore the city at your own pace while enjoying the stunning architecture and the vibrant street life, is by walking. When you’re here, walking is the best way to explore the city and get to know it better than you would by looking at maps and guides.

Go shopping at all of the world’s best art galleries back to Florence

There are so many beautiful art galleries in Florence that it would be a shame not to take the opportunity to see them. While you are in Florence, visit the Uffizi Gallery, which is one of the most popular galleries in the world. The Uffizi Gallery is home to classic art pieces from artists such as Botticelli, Michelangelo, da Vinci and Raphael.

After visiting the Uffizi Gallery, walk back towards the city centre and take a right at the Arno River. Walk down this side of the river until you reach the Pitti Palace. This is an excellent opportunity to take a break and explore some of the many shops that line the street.

Now you know where to go, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t have the best time ever in Florence, Italy.
